Forest Area Federal Credit Union New CEO

February 8, 2018

Forest Area Federal Credit Union announces the appointment of Gregory Gurka as the new CEO. Gurka’s appointment follows the retirement of former CEO Robert Raden, who served in the role for over 10 years. Since being founded in 1983 Forest Area Federal Credit Union has grown to over one hundred million in assets with five branch locations in Fife Lake, Kalkaska, Kingsley, Manton and a new office opening in Lake City in the summer of 2018.

“Forest Area Federal Credit Union and its Board of Directors is fully confident in Greg’s capability to lead Forest Area Federal Credit Union forward based on Greg’s demonstration of his leadership within credit unions, increasing assets by modernizing process and updating products/services and increasing staff knowledge” says Glenna Woodin Forest Area Federal Credit Union Marketing. “Greg has over 30 year of experience within the credit union industry and has facilitated several Field of Membership changes which gave the credit union the certainty it needed in naming him to this position. With the credit union receiving the approval to service 4 new counties: Missaukee, Grand Traverse, Antrim, and Crawford; Greg seemed to be the perfect fit”.

Prior to his appointment, he served as CEO at Traverse Catholic FCU Traverse City, MI, where he collaborated with the Board of Directors to increase assets, restructure Loan Department resulting in new loan growth, increased the training budget to allow professional development, and facilitated a Field of Membership change from a closed group to community base encompassing six counties.

Greg stated “I am excited to be joining an institution that’s has such a wonderful history, an amazing staff and is as community oriented as Forest Area Federal Credit Union.  I’ve been introduced to several of the elected officials, community members and Rod Larr, the original CEO and founder.  The past couple weeks I’ve been trying to patronize local establishments to learn more about our members and the area.  It’s my goal to continue getting out into the community, to participate in events, and carry on the work of my predecessors.  We will continue to grow, we will work at making our credit union your financial institution and we will always welcome your thoughts and words because as a member, you have a voice”.
