Your computer’s been infected – or has it?
In a bogus malware scam, a pop-up will appear on your device, telling you that your computer’s been infected by a virus. To get rid of the supposed virus, just click on the link in the pop-up and install the malware program on your device.
Sounds helpful? Sure, and oh so easy! Unfortunately, if you follow the prompts, you’ll be giving a scammer direct access to your device, which likely isn’t infected at all.
Protect yourself:
Keep your computer’s security at its strongest settings.
Use a VPN when using public Wi-Fi.
Never click on a link sent by an unverified contact.
Stay alert, and keep yourself, and your computer, safe!
